Hola! I’m Daniel Roa, a queer, non-binary Colombian-American artist, photographer, and designer based in New York City. Born and raised in South Carolina, my photography is heavily influenced by the lush southern landscapes. I then studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I earned a BFA in Photography with a minor in Business Management & Entrepreneurship and Fashion Photography. Immediately moving to New York City upon graduating, I had the incredible opportunity to intern for renowned photographers, David LaChapelle and Steven Klein; teaching me to push creative boundaries, conceptualize bold visual narratives, and introducing me to the world of high fashion photography. My photography often explores themes of individuality and self-expression. A lot of my work is also taken on 35mm and 120 film. I love the intimate quality and delicate nature of film. I typically shoot with the Mamiya RZ67 Pro ii which only gives me 10 photos per roll of film, meaning I have to be very intentional with each image.

I’ve also had the honor of exhibiting work throughout the USA and internationally, including at King’s Cross Station in London. I've also been fortunate to work with brands such as: Marvel, Depop, and Taco Bell. In addition to photography, I’m also the creator behind a new venture, Ties by Daniel: a collection of bespoke, sculptural neckwear (bow ties, ties, etc). Each piece is handmade with care, character, and a touch of rebellion.

What began as a personal experiment in wearable art has evolved into a fusion of fashion, creativity, and eccentricity. Each piece is like a tiny sculpture meant to be worn proudly. My ties have even appeared on the covers of magazines, such as, being worn by writer, actor, & comedian Julio Torres for the Cover of Iris Covetbook styled by Angel Emmanuel.
This blog is a space where I can:
Share the stories behind my photographs and shoots
Showcase different events and exhibitions I'm a part of
Bring you into the process of designing my ties
Reflect on the intersections of queerness, culture, fashion, and identity
Talk about creativity and offer any advice I can
Thank You for joining me on this blogging journey and let's continue to celebrate art together!
xoxo Daniel Roa (they/them)
