Fire Island Dreamscapes
Fire Island Dreamscapes is a celebration of queer identity and diversity, set against the lush and storied landscapes of Fire Island. Known as a historic hub for LGBTQ+ culture, Fire Island has long been a symbol of freedom and expression, though it often caters predominantly to muscular, white, gay, cisgender men. This project seeks to broaden that narrative.
Captured on 120mm film, the work uplifts BIPOC queer individuals while centering the experiences of transgender and nonbinary communities. It reimagines Fire Island’s iconic scenery by blending its vibrant present with its layered past, creating a dialogue between identity, environment, and history. Fire Island Dreamscapes offers a fresh perspective, enriching the island’s legacy by amplifying voices often left in the margins. Video on Super8 film.
Fire Island Dreamscapes was displayed at the Visitor's Center in Fire Island Pines as part of Daniel Roa's solo gallery show.
